Do you have a Cloud Exit Plan?
With all the chaos after Trump's re-election as president and the noyb organization (none of your business), which points out that it could soon become a very big problem to use the big US tech giants, especially in the context of GDPR, it is extra important that you have a cloud exit plan for your critical and important systems, including systems that process personal data. Therefore, if you use one or more US-based tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, SalesForce and many more for your core systems, including your Outlook and possibly SharePoint systems with HR data, it is time to have an alternative in mind. Or at least have assessed and known the risk that management has accepted.
Take a step back and start developing a cloud strategy. Here you will decide, based on data and opportunities, which internal and external requirements and guidelines are involved, for example when purchasing a new HR system. Can data be stored in the cloud? Should it be in the EU? Should it be a safe third country? Should it be the US? Can we have data extracted? Can we move the business function to an alternative? … and many more questions will be answered, so that you are prepared for the day when it becomes necessary to decide whether the use of a given supplier is suddenly illegal or contrary to your own requirements, and you potentially need to act quickly.
Unitas has helped organizations develop cloud strategies. Our experience is that it is a valuable management tool that helps make some very important decisions, or at least know the risk if, for example, you can't get an alternative. And there is usually always an alternative if you look for it, and don't just do what everyone else does - it doesn't necessarily turn out right!
